Backround information:
My topic is mood rings. My question is how a mood ring can tell your mood. I chose this topic because I always used to wear mood rings and wonder how they could tell my mood. How does a mood ring work? Who thought of the mood ring and why? What dose each color mean and why? These are the questions I would ask myself when I wore mood rings.
What is known about my topic is that it has been worn by men woman and children for over thirty years. Also it changes color to represent what type of mood you are in. Each color stands for a different mood. Also that it determines your mood by the temperature of your skin. Marvin Wernick is the original inventor of mood rings.
How does a mood ring work? A mood ring tells you what mood you are in by the temperature of your skin. The color of the mood ring changes when a particular temperature is reached. The temperature can be detected from changes as small as 0.2 ºF. A mood ring is made of thermotropic crystals . The thermotropic crystals are injected into the rings stone so it can tell your mood. The stone can be hollow glass filled with thermotropic liquid or a stone glass sitting on top thin sheet of liquid crystals.
Who thought of mood rings and why? Marvin Wernick was the first person who thought of the mood ring but Joshua Reynolds is the one who is known for selling mood rings. Reynolds made a million dollars in about 3 months of selling mood rings. Marvin thought of the idea when he was with a doctor that was using the crystals. Marvin was a jeweler and saw how many possibilities and successes the product could have.
When researching questions that came to mind was can the temperature of a room affect the color of the mood ring? Can running around affect the mood ring because you get hot? If you were sick could have a high temp affect the color of the mood ring. Can other people emotions affect your own? Can these things make it so the mood ring tells you a different mood then what you are in?
